Earlier this year, Tiësto announced the launch of his new label “AFTR:HRS” which shifts focus more towards the deeper sounds of dance music. The dance music legend calls AFTR:HRS a side-project where he’s able to showcase his other side (as opposed to the more festival oriented Musical Freedom), heavily influenced by his trance and melodic roots.

Now, Tiësto has put together a 14 track compilation featuring some insanely good deep house and down tempo tunes. The AFTR:HRS compilation is a perfect Christmas gift and even features a new single from Tiësto titled, “Back In The Days“. Tijs sat down with Billboard for an exclusive interview where he talks about AFTR:HRS, the compilation and more.

“It’s not necessarily music that I’m going to play out but I like to listen to it when I’m on the beach, or on holiday or in my car. It’s more like a mellow kind of dance music, but it still kind of has a bit of a beat so it’s still kind of uplifting in a way. So that was like my first thought, like, “I want to put out a compilation like that because no one really does that.””, Tiesto tells Billboard.

He also believes his old fans are going to be excited with this direction stating, “I think people who like me from the beginning — who liked me when I first started DJing and was playing all trance — they will appreciate this compilation as well because it has a lot of melodic sounds.”

In his interview, Tiësto looks back on the highlights of 2016, the state of the dance music industry and his thoughts on the rumors of a Swedish House Mafia return. You can check out the full interview here.
