Richie Hawtin debuts CLOSE audio-visual show at Coachella

Richie Hawtin has always been, and still is, at the forefront of the techno game with a career spanning 20+ years. Always looking out for the most modern technology both musically and more artistically, the Canadian has remained one of the most interesting techno artists which is why he’s thought of in such high regard by fans of electronic music.

Hawtin has been teasing his brand new audio-visual live show for some time now, and attendees at the first weekend of Coachella were treated to the world premiere of the show. Judging by the videos the show did not disappoint. The set featured a mounted camera overlooking Hawtin’s mass of equipment which was synchronised in time with the music and would react accordingly as different layers of lights would come and go alongside the music.

The master of minimal techno played a particularly lethal set filled with the dark and ominous grooves he’s known for, and accompanied by the music this added together to create a sensational experience for the audience. Hawtin’s aim was to humanise live electronic music by giving the crowd a better idea of what he’s doing on stage as opposed to standing behind CDJs and a mixer. You can catch a segment of his set below:
