The xx make triumphant return at Coachella Festival
The xx have long been admired as a group capable of blending the mix of electronic music and vocal performances to perfection. After a three-year hiatus from performing, the trio returned to the stage late last year and now capped their return at one of the world’s premiere music events, Coachella Music Festival, this past weekend.
Having formed in 2005, the group released their debut album ‘XX’, in 2009, a release that was deemed a commercial and critical success with the likes of The Guardian and NME, and also going on to win the Mercury Prize in 2010. With their latest studio album ‘I See You’ being released earlier this year, The xx’s return to the stage was a focus of many attendees when the Coachella line-up dropped.
Their mainstage performance on Friday night in the sub-headline spot showcased some of the group’s most iconic tracks. Featuring classics like ‘Islands’ and ‘Shelter’ mixed in with new tracks like ‘Say Something Loving’ and ‘Fiction,’ the hour-long set was an exhibition of their musical talents.
With a packed 2017 calendar already planned, The xx will return to Coachella for the second weekend of the festival. With appearances at Primavera, Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, and Lollapalooza in the pipeline, the return of The xx looks to be in full force.
