Skrillex set to produce new music for G-Eazy
Chart-topping rapper G-Eazy and king of dubstep Skrillex are collaborating on the rapper’s new album, according to an Instagram post G-Eazy shared. Captioned “Labbed up with my brother Skrillex last night…great times, great vibes, great music. Album otw,” the black and white photo features Skrillex seated behind a laptop as G-Eazy stands. It’s unclear if “otw” means out this week, and if Skrillex is only producing a track or the entire album. Other collaborators include rapper Raekwon and G-Eazy said the album is nearly complete, ready for release.
This is not G-Eazy’s first foray into electronic dance music, as he previously worked with Carnage and Dillon Francis, nor is it Skrillex’ first entry in hip hop, as he’s worked with an array of rappers as featured artists on his own songs. G-Eazy, born Gerald Gillum, first hit the charts with his single “Me, Myself & I” which featured vocals from Bebe Rexha, who’s lent her voice to many EDM hits.
Skrillex began in the industry under his real name of Sonny Moore, as a member of an emo band, but emerged as dubstep’s most visible ambassador. In an incredibly wise move, he teamed up with Diplo for a change of subgenres and sounds, with their Jack Ü project. A master at production, Moore has worked with the highest profile artists in the industry, particularly Justin Bieber, and now G-Eazy.
