One of Avicii’s biggest and most successful songs – ‘Wake Me Up‘ has just turned four years old having been released on June 17th 2013. The hit record was released as the lead single from his highly anticipated and explosive debut album ‘True‘. The song featured American soul vocalist Aloe Blacc, who you may remember from memorable singles such as ‘I Need A Dollar‘ and ‘The Man‘. The style of the song was new to many people as the Swedish mastermind managed to successfully fuse folk music with electronic music and as they are polar opposites genre wise, this was definitely no easy task and only a majorly talented artist would be able to overcome that barrier.

Wake Me Up‘ perhaps did way better than Avicii expected it to do having gained 1.3 billion views on YouTube and half a billion streams on Spotify alongside hitting number one in over 20 countries. Avicii had huge support from the UK as he sold over 250,000 in the first week. In the USA, it became the first dance/electronic song to reach over 4 million copies, making people suggest that Avicii may have been the biggest influence on the rise of EDM in the country.
