Selling out a yearly tour schedule & playing sell out shows spanning the world over including residencies in Las Vegas, New York, Miami, and Atlantic City, Cedric Gervais is one of the most sought after House DJs & electronic music producers in the world today. Continuing his ascendancy into 2017 and beyond, the French producer and Grammy Award winner premieres his new single for us, ‘Somebody New‘, featuring the vocals of British singer Liza Owen.

Drawing a monthly Spotify audience of over 5 million listeners, Gervais’ latest production features a slowed BPM, giving the release an opening chilled feel. Giving way to a more orchestral build-up, Gervais injects a Tropical House/Moombahton hybrid-style drop that will get fans bouncing. Claps add real funk to the production, and give the release a real summery feel as it bursts into life. The release, laced with the smooth vocals of Owen, demonstrates Gervais’ diversity and ability as a producer, and offers a stark contrast to previous hits, such as 2012 smash, “Molly.”

This seemed like the perfect place to start during our exclusive interview with the man himself, who told us:

“Its an incredible record. It’s very different for my previous productions but I think it’s very fresh and it sounds like nothing that’s out there at the moment. Liza’s songwriting is just amazing and fresh, her performance on the record is so on point.”

And having produced numerous remixes in the past, notably his Grammy-winning mix of Lana Del Rey‘s ‘Summertime Sadness’ in 2013, Cedric was keen to discuss what he looks for in a track when finding a production to put his own spin on.

“I look for a song that has a unique vibe, I don’t care who the artist is. If the song is not right I won’t do it. I just produce what feels right at the time, I don’t follow trends I just do what I like and try to be different.”

And with a busy schedule on the horizon, 2017 is shaping up to be a jam-packed year for the popular DJ…

“2017 is SO busy! I’ll be touring all over Europe, places like France, Portugal, Greece etc…”

Speaking of Europe, Cedric Gervais is no stranger to Ibiza, having performed at several iconic venues on the island, including Pacha. And this summer is another that he’ll be rocking the decks of the White Isle….

“I will be doing several shows at Ushuaïa with Kygo, and David Guetta, and at the new club, with Martin Garrix too.”

Always about the music, one of Cedric’s biggest platforms to connect with fans is through his own global radio show, Miamication, one he’s highly proud of:

“I always wanted to have a radio show that people connected to! Now it is in so many countries all around the world and it’s so great to see my music and fans connecting everywhere.”

And working with some of the biggest names in the industry also means the Frenchman can see the rise of many emerging talents. 2 of whom, he wanted to particularly give a shout-out to…

“One is an amazing rock singer called Jesse Jo Stark, and the other one is an up-and-comer called Daktyl who does very cool experimental electronic music on Counter Records.”

Though Cedric Gervais is one of the biggest names in electronic music, which direction the genre is headed in for future is anybody’s guess, and Cedric himself was unsure on this topic. Though did promise lots of fresh new music for the rest of the year!

“I wish I could tell you how dance music will change, but I’m not a fortune teller. What I do know is that electronic music still has a lot of room to grow and will always come out with new genres and sounds and push the envelope. For me, 2017 will be packed with a lot more new music, and even more touring!”

‘Somebody New’ by Cedric Gervais features the vocals of Liza Owen, and is out NOW on Island Records, you can catch the track below and let us know your thoughts in the comments!
