W&W‘s trance side-project NWYR (pronounced as “new year”) have added a new track to their ever-expanding catalog of work. The new release, titled ‘Voltage‘, saw its release today, followed by mixed reviews as many people believe the track may resemble their big room style too closely.

The track opens up with a quick build-up to what is a short drop, driven by a thundering kick. The break consists of a gorgeous reverb-soaked piano accompanied by vast orchestral strings, creating an exciting build-up, followed by immense lead synths; primed to grace festival stages.

Despite an immersing break, the second drop is what has acclaimed the most criticism, with some saying it sounds like big room, more so than trance. However, this is merely a matter of opinion and does not need to be taken into account when listening to the track.

After leaving their trance origins for the big room wave in 2013, the Dutch duo decided to return to their roots earlier this year when they debuted their new alias at Ultra Music Festival Miami‘s A State of Trance Stage. Playing mostly ID’s accompanied by a few remixes, NWYR made their presence known with an enthralling one-hour set.
