Afrojack reveals deep passion for Gumball 3000 in recent interview

Dutch DJ Afrojack recently discussed his passion for the annual Gumball 3000 event (which is a 3,000 mile celebrity motor rally) during an interview with Billboard. This year, the rally will begin in Latvia’s capital city, Riga, and will finish on the beautiful Greek island of Mykonos with stop off points at Warsaw, Budapest, Dubrovnik, Tirana and Athens. When asked about why he attends the annual rally, he said:

“It’s basically the only week of the year I’m not focused on music, and I get to drive fast cars. I’m not supposed to drive them really fast, but why not?”

This break also gives Afrojack a chance to reflect on some of the music he’s made and to take his mind off all the hectic touring. He later added:

“It gives me a chance to listen to a lot of the music I’m working on. I bring about 50 to 100 songs, so I can listen back to everything and see which one really sticks with me, which one really represents what I’m doing right now. This gives me a good week to make a selection.”

Afrojack definitely speaks the truth here, there’s definitely no better way to hear your own new music than to hear it when driving through beautiful cities in powerful cars. Afrojack went on to talk about his relationship with David Guetta. The pair have worked together on many successful hits and even earned a grammy award, and speaking about his French colleague, the ‘Take Over Control’ producer added:

“I think the greatest thing about David is he makes great coffee. He picked me up all the way in the beginning, when I just started getting a little bit of shine. He really took me around and showed me a lot of the industry. He also taught me a lot about making songs, and we’ve been working together for a long time. He’s more like a brother to me, like my best friend [rather] than just someone I work together with. To be able to work with someone you can trust so much and actually see as family, that makes it a lot of fun.”
