The MTV Video Music Awards nominations have been announced and The Chainsmokers lead among dance music artists with several VMA nominations across various categories.

The Chainsmokers are arguably as much a pop group as they are a dance duo, and as such feature in many nominated categories, including ‘Closer‘ with Halsey for Best Collaboration and Best Editing. Calvin Harris‘ newest collaboration ‘Feels‘ with Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams also received a nod for Best Collaboration.

The Best Dance Video category itself includes Zedd and Alessia Cara’s ‘Stay‘, Calvin Harris for ‘My Way‘, Kygo and Selena Gomez for ‘It Ain’t Me‘, Major Lazer, Justin Bieber and MO’s ‘Cold Water‘, and Afrojack‘s ‘Gone.’

Sia, the wigged mystery pop artist, has a pop dance sound and her track ‘The Greatest‘ of course was nominated for Best Choreography. In other categories, The Weeknd dominated with single ‘Reminder‘ and Katy Perry lead with ‘Chained to the Rhythm‘ despite a tepid reaction to her Witness album.

The VMAs are synonymous with iconic and infamous pop culture moments like Madonna making out with Britney Spears and Lady Gaga wearing raw meat. Although MTV is no longer music television, given the lack of music videos broadcast on the network, the VMAs remain popular with young fans.
