Canadian DJ/producer deadmau5 has taken to Instagram to give fans a sneak preview of his debut film score. As all fans know, deadmau5, a.k.a Joel Zimmerman, is constantly pushing boundaries and trying new things. After all, music is art, and art is all about experimentation, hence why his new project shouldn’t come as a surprise.
In the Instagram post below, he shows a short preview of his score, with what appears to be Steinberg’s Cubase, as opposed to his usual Ableton. Despite being quite responsive on social media, he has not yet disclosed the title of the film.
As usual, fans are quick to analyse everything. The track that is heard at the beginning of the video is his 2014 track ‘Terrors In My Head‘. Upon listening closely, many similarities between the track and the rest of the mix can be identified.
Others on social media have compared this new artistic expansion to that of French duo Daft Punk, who famously won a Grammy Award for their work on the Tron: Legacy soundtrack.
Joel has been a busy man recently. As well as celebrating Mau5trap‘s 10th birthday with a special event in Toronto last week, the Canadian label also released a 33-track 10-year anniversary compilation to commemorate an outstanding decade in dance music.
