“This is our 10th International Music Summit (IMS). It is a great thing for Ibiza, and we love it. We come and show support because we love what these guys are doing. Pete (Tong), all our friends. Lots of stuff gets done and lots of deals get closed so it is amazing to meet up with some many people and talk about the next projects people are taking part in.”

For Alan and Christian, aka. The Mambo Brothers, the future of Ibiza takes on greater importance than for most. Born and raised on the white isle, the duo have grown up surrounded by the sounds of the family business; the iconic Café Mambo, an Ibiza institution where thousands flock to each year. Listening to the grooving sounds of the greatest DJs in world music, accompanied by the soft sounds of mellow waves lapping against the shore, the sunset at Mambo has become so iconic, even Eric Prydz named a track after it. And so, we caught up with the pair at IMS Ibiza, to hear their thoughts on a range of subjects for the season ahead in this exclusive interview….

Of course, the natural place to start discussion was the legendary Café itself, which Alan and Christian revealed, looks set for the biggest summer of all time:

“Mambo is looking amazing! We cross our fingers and touch wood that we have an amazing sunset every night and that everyone is super happy when they come. Music wise, we have an amazing line up of pre-parties planned and we will be working a lot with Pacha as always, and also the new club, . So we are gonna do pre-parties for Eric Prydz and Hï at Sundays including ourselves. As well as Martin Solveig‘s ‘My House.’ One of our favourite nights in Ibiza actually, is with Hot Since 82 at Pacha. And obviously, our good old friend, Bob Sinclar with his French elegance! Mondays we will keep for ourselves to arrange for our friends all around the world.”

And with a hectic summer schedule planned, the brothers, in their famous hybrid of a Spanish accent with a Scottish twang, explained that things were looking busier than ever before:

“If we can describe Ibiza in one word for this summer it would be “busy!” Really busy. It will be amazing, because we will travel a lot, but we have our own night at Hï and we are gonna be raving every Sunday with everyone there. As two local kids from Ibiza, its great for us. And we are so happy to have our own night. We have lots of new music being released and really cool guests coming down. People like Tensnake, and Idris Elba. So it is a nice crew of friends playing and having fun on Sundays.”

And despite a different vibe inside the magnificent new venue, compared to their own sunset bar, the Balearic brothers assured us their sets at Hï Ibiza would still carry the same playful vibe…

“We will try to bring some of the Mambo vibe to Hï. That friendly vibe that Mambo has where everybody can come and play with us and have shots in the DJ booth. We want to make it fun for people on the dance floor. The main word is FUN!

And with things ticking over nicely in the business, the summer of 2017 is all about new music from The Mambo Brothers with some dancefloor ‘bangers’ guaranteed!

“Right now, many tracks are finished and we will be sending those to record labels. We have been testing them and we are very happy with the work we have been doing this winter because we have some great bangers for the summer, and hopefully you will hear them in the coming weeks because we have been testing them on the dance floor!”

But before all the hectic scheduling can kick off, Alan and Christian need to work on their main priority… topping up the tan!

“We will actually be doing a few events around Europe, and doing a few festivals. So we will leave the island but not often because of the family business, so perhaps we will only leave Ibiza once or twice a month. We have to leave Ibiza you see; to go and sun bathe and enjoy the beach! (*Both Laughing*) Get a towel on and some coconut oil and get a great tan! That’s very important. Our tans are not going too well right now but we will get there!”

As lively and likeable in person as their electric sets suggest, The Mambo Brothers will be playing at Hï Ibiza every Sunday this summer, taking to the decks in Room 2 of the island’s newest superclub as part of the monumental ‘Hï Sundays‘. You can grab tickets from the official Hï website, and of course, be sure to catch them at their legendary location this summer; the breath-taking Café Mambo.
