Chicago native Kaskade played at the elite Prysm Nightclub for his official Lollapalooza aftershow last weekend mounted by local promoter React Presents, delivering a set of atmospheric deep house at the exceptional venue. We Rave You was there for all the action, as Chicago’s native son celebrated his homecoming.

Lollapalooza is one of the nation’s largest music festivals and sees top acts from Paul McCartney to Kanye West entertaining thousands: Kaskade played the EDM stage this year so his set at Prysm eschewed his hits and instead offered Ryan Raddon the opportunity to explore his artistry on a deeper level.

Kaskade has been previewing some of his new material, testing the fan reaction, during his sets lately and so clubgoers at Prysm were afforded a chance to witness tracks that will surely be future hits.

A particular highlight of his set was his remix of Kungs‘ ‘This Girl‘ which had the crowd singing along to the unforgettable beat. His collaboration with Felix Cartel, ‘Fakin It‘ had every one dancing, and the beautiful, undulating bass in ‘Disarm You‘ was a crowdpleaser.

By far the greatest moment of his set was his remix of Fleetwood Mac‘s hit ‘Dreams.’ Every fan sang along to Stevie Nicks’ distinctive vocals, as Kaskade added booming deep house synths. Equally entertaining was his 2008 single ‘Angel on My Shoulder,’ eliciting a sing along as well.

While we certainly missed hearing tracks like ‘Never Sleep Alone‘ or ‘I Remember,’ watching Kaskade from the balcony was witnessing genius in action: every press of a button or turn of a dial was deliberately and masterfully executed. Seeing Kaskade play a set that wasn’t about fan-service but rather showcasing his art was worth it. He kept interaction at a minimum and the intensity of his focus was evident throughout the night.

Prysm, as always, delivered the experience. The club was awash in stammeringly beautiful lasers and lights, matching the cool color code of Kaskade’s musical palate. The club is always glamorous, the champagne was delicious and didn’t break the bank, and there was plenty of room to dance the night away.

Kaskade is one of Chicago’s finest musical offerings, and the unparalleled Prysm is itself no exception.
