Home Uncategorized Exclusive Interview: Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano on house music and Ibiza

“We always go back to house music…it all started with house music.”

Clearly, Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano are keeping true to quality music. The Dutch duo are creative artists who bring many different genres into their music, from tribal to Latin, but they always honor their status at the forefront of house music. We Rave You had the exclusive opportunity to chat to the guys ahead of their residency at Hï Ibiza to discuss their Ibiza residency, the place of house music in their career, and what the future holds.

James and Marciano began as house music DJs in their native Netherlands, quickly rising from the local scene to becoming an international act. They gained fame with their track ‘Sotu’ which was a collaboration with Nicky Romero, released on Steve Angello‘s label. Finding their home on Spinnin’ Records, they have since launched their very own label, SONO MUSIC, to give their distinctive house fusion a personal home. Music keeps these Dutchmen busy of course, with single releases and appearances at major dance music festivals.

Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano have taken over the most exciting venue on the party island – Hï Ibiza, with a showstopping residency this summer. Although the season winds down to its always spectacular close, the opportunity to witness the creative house duo in action behind the decks is still there with Wednesday night sets booked until the middle of September. They share the space with none other than the king of trance himself, Armin van Buuren, offering fans the delights of two genres of dance music in one setting. They had this to say of their co-headlining residency at the world’s home of dance music:

“It’s always a big dream to get a residency in Ibiza…we play with Armin van Buuren every week. It’s a big honor to get an Ibiza residency: we love the island. It’s always good to be back in the Island…It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world right now. We can very proud.”

Hï Ibiza has two dance rooms, with van Buuren commanding one and Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano taking charge of the other. The concept is novel on the Island, and the duo remarked on its place as both successor of the White Isle’s past and herald of its future. The duo has a return to Van Buuren’s Armada slated for release, as well as singles on their aforementioned own label. The collaboration between Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano and their co-headliner Armin van Buuren was bound to happen, given their shared home at Hï Ibiza. ‘You Are’ was released in July and has had a massive reaction from fans so far.
