While it’s not quite the music video pioneering channel it once was, MTV certainly retains a highly influential place within the music and entertainment industry.  A major highlight among the various award ceremonies of the year. MTV’s highly anticipated European edition has been held since 1994, in major cities including  Berlin, Paris, Rotterdam, Milan, Dublin and Stockholm, with British capital London hosting the event this year. Further news for the 2017 edition includes the announcement of UK Singer and actress Rita Ora, who will be adding the event to her resume after being the host for recent reality shows including Boy Band and America’s Next Top Model.

The nominees for the EMA’s have recently been announced, with the obvious choices including the likes of Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, Kendrick Lamar, Miley Cyrus, Shawn Mendes and Taylor Swift up for the Best Artist award. On the dance side of things, the award for Best Electronic has been around since the very beginning, with winners including The Prodigy, David Guetta, Avicii and Martin Garrix. This year dance music’s brightest stars will once again have their well-deserved spot alongside the biggest names in pop, with Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Major Lazer, Martin Garrix and The Chainsmokers competing for top honors.

Aside from the specialized category specifically set out for electronic acts, artists from the dance music industry have been nominated for Best Song (Clean Bandit – Rockabye ft. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie) and Best World Stage (Steve Aoki – Live from Isle of MTV Malta 2016, Tomorrowland 2017, The Chainsmokers – Live from Isle of MTV Malta 2017).

Winners will be announced Sunday, November 12 when the 2017 MTV EMA is broadcasted live around the globe from The SSE Arena, Wembley in London.
