Porter Robinson is highly regarded as one of the most talented and innovative producers in today’s scene – and often times one of the most mysterious. Every few months he will pop up with a brand new track or major announcement, before disappearing from sight once again. Having been keeping relatively quiet since the conclusion of his ‘Shelter’ world tour alongside Madeon, this week he revealed a brand new side project under the alias of Virtual Self, as he premiered the debut single ‘Eon Break’.
Having made a number of cryptic tweets regarding new music recently, it seems that this is the news fans had been waiting for. The track is certainly a move away from his renowned enchanting sound, as he delves into the Dance Dance Revolution genre – often known as Happy Hardcore. Taking this technic-Utopia sound and giving it new life, the melodic elements of the track still retain that emotional, mesmerising Porter Robinson touch, with this latest style in some ways even incorporating a classic video game sound. As the talented producer branches out and explores his seemingly endless creativity, it will be interesting how many tracks will be released under this new alias. Could we be in store for a full album? Only time will tell.
For now, be sure to check out the magnificent ‘Eon Break’ in full below.
