Having broken into both the mainstream sphere with his upbeat dance/pop crossover, mysterious producer Marshmello recently revealed that he had been working with a number of household names, one of which was Selena Gomez. Undoubtedly one of the biggest artists in the pop scene, Selena was invited to perform her collaboration with the producer live for the first time at the AMA’s last weekend. Flooding the radio airwaves since its release, ‘Wolves’ is the latest hit to add to Marshmello’s ever growing arsenal of music, therefore it made sense for him to join Selena on stage during such an important performance.
With so many producers teaming up with mainstream vocalists, it is becoming increasing common for us to see DJs who we may ordinarily be used to seeing behind the decks, appear on stage at these award show performances. On this occasion, Marshmello decides to rock out on drums rather than stand behind a set of decks and twist some knobs, showing his instinctive ability as a musician rather as a DJ. With the performance centred around Selena, she has since received some criticism for her apparent lip syncing throughout, which may be harsh considering she recently underwent a kidney transplant that has prevented her from performing. An entertaining performance none the less, it was certainly a night to remember for fans in the audience.
