Sonny John Moore, Better known as Skrillex, turns 30 today and what better way to celebrate the electronic icon’s birthday by reliving his insane BBC Essential Mix from 2011 during Rockness Festival in the UK. Skrillex burst on to the scene with his ‘My Name Is Skrillex EP’ and began to find commercial success when he later released ‘Scary Monsters And Nice Spirits EP’ in the early days of his solo career. Over the years Sonny has graced the electronic music industry with a host of sensational tracks from ‘Rock n Roll (Will Take You To The Mountain)‘ to his boisterous ‘Bangarang‘ and the blockbuster Make It Bun Dem. But Sonny fans will not forget his time spent with Jack Ü other-half Diplo as the duo stormed the EDM scene in 2013 with some unforgettable and mesmerising sets from Ultra Miami to their 24-hour live Twitch stream which was cut short 18 hours in.

Skrillex’s BBC Essential Mix was taken during Rockness’ sixth Festival and the talented DJ spun a heavenly Dubstep / Drum & Bass showcasing some huge tracks. ‘Scary Monsters And Nice Spirits’ kicked off the LA artist’s set in recognisable fashion but from the onset, Skrillex never held back. A remix of La Roux‘s ‘In For the Kill’ and the potent ‘Bass Canon from English producer Flux Pavilion set the heavy tone as his Essential mix only gets better and better. Notable tracks throughout the DJs set include ‘Skullcrack’ by 16Bit as well as ‘First Of The Year (Equinox)’ and ‘Kyoto’ from the man himself. To perfectly compliment his performance and round out the essential mix, Skrillex ended the set with his remix of Benny Benassi‘s ‘Cinema‘ featuring Gary Go.

As far as mixes go this is truly one of the finest mixes from Skrillex to be hosted by BBC Essential Mix. Relive the madness below and check out the full tracklist here. From the team at We Rave You, happy birthday Sonny Moore.
