The heartbreaking news on Friday that Tim Bergling, known by his stage name Avicii, had passed away echoed volumes throughout the electronic dance music scene as it lost a true icon of the industry. The 28-year-old was not only a pioneer of the electronic dance scene but an innovator who spearheaded electronic dance music inspiring the many with considerable impact. Since his passing, tributes to the Swedish artists have continuously flooded social media with heartfelt messages from all corners of the entire music industry itself and beyond. As other electronic greats such as Sebastian Ingrosso, Laidback Luke, David Guetta and Tiësto pay tribute to the superstar, so to did the likes of Dua Lipa and Madonna. But perhaps one of the most emotional tributes to Tim came from tropical house artist Kygo during his performance at Coachella.
The Norweigan music producer had been playing the American festival in California on Friday after hearing the news of Tim’s passing. Towards the end of his set, Kygo stopped the music to make an announcement to the Coachella crowd. Kygo said:
“Hey Coachella, I think most have you guys have heard, but today is a very sad day for music. Earlier today, I got the news that Avicii passed away at only 28 years old. Avicii was my biggest musical inspiration and he was the reason why I started making electronic music. So I don’t think I would have been on this stage tonight if it wasn’t for him and I know he has inspired millions of other producers out there. So I want to end my set tonight with my favorite Avicii song. In honor of Avicii, I want you guys to dance and sing along and celebrate the life of a true musical genius. This next song is called ‘Without You’.”
During Kygo’s announcement to the crowd, the artist’s words were met with cheers and overwhelmingly heartfelt happiness to his touching tribute. Following after Kygo finished his speech, the background of the Coachella stage faded to photo’s of Avicii which stayed on during the entire duration of his track ‘Without You‘ which features the beautiful vocals from Sandro Cavazza. A truly moving tribute from the Norwegian as he remembered Tim Bergling with the entire Coachella audience. Check out the video taken from Kygo’s set below.
