Home Uncategorized Mightyfools announce split due to one member’s fight with depression

In the midst of the tragic news about the passing away of legendary producer Tim Bergling, better known as Avicii, the duo Mightyfools also announced, just a day before the terrible news, that they will no longer make music together as a duo. Jelle and Andy, who have been making music together since 2007, announced on April 19th, that they will keep releasing music and touring together until August 2018, giving them one last chance to say goodbye to their longtime fans and aficionados. The duo has decided to publicly explain that the hectic lifestyle has contributed to Andy struggling with depression, hence the decision to step down and allow him to properly take all the necessary steps to recover and start fresh.

..it’s time to say goodbye. It was a tough decision but we feel like we’re at the top and that our work is done. Also leading this kind of lifestyle can take a toll on you. Dealing with the pressure has contributed to Andy struggling with depression. We are happy to announce that he made great steps towards recovery. We feel the need to be open about this, as many others suffer from mental problems but have nobody to talk to.

After touring the world for the past 11 years, headlining and playing at some of the biggest stages and venues throughout the globe, Andy and Jelle want to give each other the opportunity to start fresh and tackle new challenges and opportunities that will arise. From what it seems as of now, Jelle will continue to produce and DJ as a solo act, while staying close to his lifetime friend and help him get out of this difficult time.

This announcement raises the conversation once again of the constant struggle within the world of electronic music (and music in general) to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle while dealing with the stress of touring, fame, and pressure to keep pleasing the fans, managers, and labels.

If you notice somebody near you is having struggles with depression, or if you have problems yourself, the best solution is to talk about it, don’t hide it. Nobody will judge you, real friends are always there to help you out.
