Living in the moment, living for your own happiness and always continuing through the hardships and circumstances the music industry laid before him – whether as Tim Bergling or under his famous alias Avicii, he managed to inspire so many. Looking back at Tim’s life we remember his lasting impact through his first ever 2010 BBC Radio One Essential Mix broadcast in his shining days with previous BBC host Pete Tong.
After an emotion-filled day of remembrance and mourning, Avicii’s confirmed passing has hit the dance music community like a boulder. The Swedish house legend went through many ups and downs in his career, part of which was due to deep health concerns for Tim later in his life. However, regardless if health was an item of the circumstances, the melodic mastermind will be remembered for his greater outlook on life and innate ability to speak to many through his music.
Without Tim’s influence the commercialization of dance music as we know it may have just been a fantasy. Little would we know counting all the way back from his 2010 BBC Radio One Essential Mix, Avicii would go on to produce hits such as ‘Hey Brother’, ‘The Days/The Nights’ or even most recently, ‘Lonely Together’ featuring the vocal sensation Rita Ora. This special mix features some of his Avicii’s notable productions including early versions of ‘Fade Into Darkness’, and even a rough cut of his eventual global sensation ‘Levels’.
The 119-minute mix will surely get you grooving in the wake of Avicii’s passing and while his mixing may be minimal, this edition of Avicii’s Essential Mix certainly will give the listener pause and a brief moment to take in his uncanny creative genius. Avicii’s outstanding melodic production, showmanship, kindness and overall ability to inspire will certainly live on through his music.
Thank you, Tim.
