LSD – Genius

Diplo is back in the headlines once again, spearheading a new musical supergroup, LSD. This time the DJ is accompanied by globally renowned singer/songwriters Sia and Labrinth. The trio also simultaneously released the first single from their anticipated album, ‘Genius‘ which features verses from both vocalists.

‘Genius‘ features Labrinth’s broadway-esque intro followed by Sia’s recognizable tone. The song is sure to hit the top 40 due to the reputable nature of the artists involved. Diplo provides a stellar production, effortlessly fusing with the heavenly vocals provided by both Sia and Labrinth. The string-heavy yet danceable production has a euphoric quality, with an addictive melody drawing in the listener. Despite the tune’s wondrous atmosphere, the video provides an entirely different feel. Although the group name LSD comes from the first initial of each artists name – Labrinth, Sia & Diplo, the video certainly provides a hallucinogenic visual depiction, as the makeshift Sia and Labrinth are fleeing a giant flying Diplo head.

Whether or not Diplo is the mastermind behind this incredible artist conjunction, he has been part of his fair share of supergroups. Major Lazer still sees major success in most global markets, Diplo’s second side project and collaborative venture with Mark Ronson, Silk City, features as his least known side-project, while Diplo’s third side project – Jack Ü, in partnership with dubstep icon Skrillex, has been on hiatus for about two years now. Each of the groups has made a profound impact on the music industry as a whole, and LSD looks set to follow the same path.
