After gaining some much-appreciated exposure following his last 2 tracks, Los Angeles-based Producer/DJ NOTOK (pronounced “not ok”) is back, with his latest future bass remix, this time putting his own spin on William Black‘s, ‘I Wish‘. Improving with each track he releases, his ‘I Wish’ remix is proving to be his most successful yet, with 13k plays and counting.
Opening up with reverb-soaked vocal chops and pads, the track starts out as a calm, relaxed tune. As the full vocal enters, a soft guitar melody plays in the background, while a subtle kick/clap pattern fills out the verse. As the breakdown arrives, bright leads and the vocals combine effortlessly, before entering the transition to the drop. As the drop arrives, listeners are met with a punchy kick, striking leads and warm bass that ideally follows the lead’s chord progressions.
In early March, the Californian released his debut remix of Dabin‘s, ‘You & I‘, which has since amassed more than 8,000 SoundCloud plays. He then released his first solo single ‘Can’t Stay Here‘, just 2 weeks later, earning more than 5,000 plays. Despite a modest following, NOTOK has successfully begun to develop his catalogue of music and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
