Hailing from Tokyo, 3×6 is a master of darkstep and neurofunk. With tracks designed to make listeners jump to the dark side of Drum & Bass, 3×6 creates music with a cyberpunk edge. There is certainly an aggressive energy that comes with the ‘Sacrifice‘ EP. The sounds here encompass cinematic moments full of atmosphere as well as hard-hitting bass lines and breaks making each song a journey through the shadows.

The first track on the EP, ‘Dauntless‘ is the perfect way to begin this journey. Its beginning is ominous and ambiguous, setting the stage for something grand similar to that of Rezz’ newest album ‘Certain Kind Of Magic‘. Out of nowhere, the song gets going with great intensity. The distorted lead is surely one to stick with audiences. Full of energy, enticing melodic lines and fantastic sound design, ‘Dauntless‘ sets the opens the EP flawlessly.

The next off the Tokyo native’s entitled, ‘Tendon‘, continues the ominous presence on the EP. An eerie voice haunts the dips in the tune, creating a sense of darkness. That ominous feel quickly dissipates when a dual assault of bass and synths break in. The brutal bass combined with the unique rhythm create a sense of trepidation, followed by a gothic and evocative choir that intensifies the sense of mystery and darkness throughout the track.

This entire journey builds up to the grand finale, our title track, ‘Sacrifice‘. Unlike the previous two songs, this track is ready to bolt from the beginning, with bouncy hats present from the very first second, accompanied by a lingering bass and a terrifying vocal sample that send chills down your spine. The sound design is truly spotless giving a glimpse into 3×6’s artistic imprint on the tune. Everything fits in just right in total harmony, the main melody gives a very industrial feel.

It is obvious that 3×6 has a distinct sound to his music. As an expert of darkstep, he knows what it takes to guide listeners down an eerie path through sonic appeal alone. The ambience, the aggressive elements, and haunting vocals in the ‘Sacrifice‘ EP all combine as a testament to his unique persona. Listen to 3×6’s ‘Sacrifice‘ EP below:
