“Friends” from Marshmello and Anne-Marie goes platinum
It would seem there is no end to what Marshmello can accomplish. He is a prolific DJ/producer who was shot to stardom because of his refreshing production style and ear for a hit. Recently, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) officially recognized his track “Friends” alongside Anne-Marie with 1 million equivalent units earned. One equivalent song unit, as defined by the RIAA, is equal to: 150 on-demand audio and/or video streams, or one digital song sale. Marshmello is no stranger to platinum records, in 2017, the super producer went platinum with his mega track “Alone“.
Surprisingly, the track never broke the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 11. However this doesn’t seem to stop the track from being recognized as platinum. The amount of streams a track needs to reach platinum is astronomical, however that doesn’t seem to phase Marshmello as he effortlessly crushed it with “Friends”. The single was being promoted as the ‘Official Friendzone Anthem’ as part of a advertising stunt. Maybe the advertising campaign coupled with the two musicians magic music work seemed to be a deadly combo?
For Anne-Marie, “Friends” served as the U.K. singer’s lead single from her debut LP Speak Your Mind. Before a sold-out show at the Roxy Theater in Los Angeles, the singer accepted the award. In a press release, the singer praised the producer saying “Working with him was so much fun and I can’t wait to work with him again. Talented, humble, lovely human…..I mean, Marshmello”. The record features a rather calm beat layered with calm-beat work and a super catchy melody. What would you expect from two super stars that are well known throughout the mainstream pop-music world? Marshmello and Anne-Marie recently recorded an acoustic version of “Friends.
