MR.BLACK‘s introduction to the electronic music scene has been pretty rapid. Rising up more recently after his Swedish House Mafia tribute, Beatport topping collaboration with KURA, and numerous successful releases on labels such as Revealed Recordings as with ‘Boomshakalak‘ and on KSHMR‘s Dharma Worldwide, the Israeli producer is assuredly aiming for the top – his packed schedule for the summer including festivals hints exactly at that. The latter of those two labels has seen one of his most recent releases: ‘Doonka‘. The KSHMR x MR.BLACK collaboration was highly anticipated before its release, and certainly didn’t disappoint. Though the original was released some two months ago, the track is back with a fresh touch up in the form of a ‘Psy Edit’.

Dropping via Dharma Worldwide, the collaboration was not the first time the pair had worked together, with MR.BLACK’s remix of KSHMR’s ‘Strange Lands‘ coming 7 months ago. Getting together on ‘Doonka‘ was always going to throw up plenty of surprises, as both artists have such a unique sound derived from their heritage. ‘Doonka‘ was unsurprisingly a heavy hitting big room banger, with both producers clearly having an influence in the sound. The track keeps up the unique vibe of previous KSHMR tracks and combines it with MR.BLACK’s innovative sounds to make a festival slammer.

However, this new edit is one up on that, flipping the big room sounds into a psy trance hit. Retaining the synths and some vocals from the original, plus other elements that are more subtle, the edit is practically a new track altogether. Utilising the original to the best possible use and pulling parts into the edit, the new version is an impeccable use of the best parts of ‘Doonka‘, and gives it a new lease of life in this spectacular edit from the pair. The duo of KSHMR and MR.BLACK appears to work exceptionally well, so expect to see them more often in the future working together.
