With an amazing 7 editions in only five days during Amsterdam Dance Event, techno event Awakenings managed to treat a large international techno crowd to a series of phenomenal parties once again. The Awakenings brand celebrated their 20th anniversary last year and throughout the years the brand has really become an integral asset of Europe’s techno scene. Just like last year, Awakenings hosted five nighttime and two daytime ADE events at Amsterdam’s iconic Gashouder venue, with Sunday’s Awakenings by Day proving to be one of the absolute highlights.

With so many succesful editions under their belt already, the organization has no problem attracting a line-up full of A-listers for each ADE edition. Awakenings kicked off this years’ ADE (Hard Opening Night) on Wednesday with the extremely popular rising star Charlotte de Witte, to be followed by Adam Beyer‘s ‘Drumcode’ concept on Thursday, Maceo Plex‘s ‘Mosaic’ showcase on Friday and Joris Voorn & Friends on Saturday (daytime). After Joseph Capriati rocked the Gashouder later that Saturday night, it was time for Awakenings by Day with Danish techno magician Kölsch and German veteran Sven Väth as headliners of the daytime event.

Supported by the festival’s usual stunning visuals, lasers and CO2 cannons, Kölsch built up his amazing set in style, taking the crowd on a journey through the melodic side of the techno and tech house genres. In the middle of his set he dropped crowd favoriteOpa from his 2011 EP ‘Speicher 70’, almost tearing off the iconic Gashouder’s roof. The crowd in the packed venue also really responded to some of the classic samples he used throughout his set, such as Jeff Mills‘s ‘The Bells’.

Chilean-Swiss DJ Luciano totally kept the dancefloor going with his sublime blend of minimal and tech house, before Sven Väth took over behind the decks. ‘Mr. Cocoon’ has stunned the Awakenings crowd with his impeccable sets many times before and that’s exactly what he managed to do once again, as day turned to night in the Dutch capital. While the gigantic disco ball in the center of the Gashouder was lowered to right above the crowd’s heads, Âme b2b RØDHÃ…D closed out what turned out to be another spectacular edition of Awakenings by Day during this years’ Amsterdam Dance Event.

We’re still awaiting the official 2018 Awakenings ADE recap to surface on YouTube, but in the meantime you can check out the official ADE Awakenings by Day photo album right here. You can also relive last years’ ADE recap down below.
