Calvin Harris, better known as the Scotsman who continually finds new ways to integrate dance into almost any genre is back with a new stand out, two-track EP featuring R&B and ex-Fifth Harmony starlet Normani. In an interview at the past BBMA’s with Normani, the singer made sure to say that she had a lot of “dope new collaborations” although she wouldn’t hint as to what, now, we finally know that this was one of those collaborations she may have been talking about. With having been some time in the works now, the duo which many may think is an unlikely pair, complement each other to the utmost extreme on their body of work.

The two tunes off the EP ‘Checklist‘ & ‘Slow Down‘ evoke complex almost entrancing like emotions as the vibe resembles that of Calvin’s recent funk/soul style. On ‘Checklist‘ the duo is joined by up and coming Nigerian WizKid who in 2016 featured on Drake’s smash hit ‘One Dance.‘ With a very stark groove and production style, the tune includes elements like driving strings, crisp hats and a bouncy percussive set giving the tune that undeniable staple Calvin Harris groove he’s been known for.

On the second tune, ‘Slow Down,‘ Calvin once again gives us a taste of his impeccable fusion of bounce and soul – as Normani combines smooth vocals with yet another soulful production. Compared to ‘Checklist,‘ ‘Slow Down‘ makes use of a more pop-funk synth line in the tunes hook that keeps listeners grooving. Both works carry a very similar vibe, but it’s the latter tune that does indeed slow things down in the hook. Other than the hook the rather upbeat tune just like the hull of Calvin’s collaborations has massive potential to be the next global radio hit.
