Nicky Romero has had yet another sensational year, proving he is one of the most talented and consistent artists in the industry. He has built on his spectacular catalogue of releases with the likes of ‘Bittersweet‘, ‘PRTCL’ and his collaboration with Deniz Koyu and Walk Off The Earth‘Paradise‘, whilst keeping up with his busy tour schedule delivering incredible shows all around the world. 7 years ago today, the Dutch DJ and producer released what can be considered as one of his breakout hits. When ‘Toulouse’ came out on Spinnin’ Records it took the world by surprise as seemingly bright and light-hearted melody built into the growl driven drop we have heard in clubs and on festival stages all around the world.
The release of ‘Toulouse’ was accompanied by an official video which went viral, accumulating over 400 million views. One of the main elements of the video which made it popular was the use of the ‘Guy Fawkes mask’, also known as the ‘V For Vendetta’, of ‘Anonymous’ mask. Nicky Romero still to this day uses it in his performances as it has become a symbol he is recognised by. The track also clearly has a special meaning to Nicky Romero as it inspired his iconic ‘Nothing Toulouse’ tattoo.
2019 will no doubt be yet another exciting year for the Protocol Recordings boss, who will no doubt deliver new music and even more shows. Be sure to follow him on social media to keep up to date with his latest activity.
