Calvin Harris goes underground with his Beats 1 Radio ‘One Mix’
Beats 1, Apple Music’s 24/7 music radio station, kicked off the year 2019 with a bang by scheduling Calvin Harris for their first One Mix broadcast of the year. Beats 1 already ended last year in style by hosting the world’s number 1 DJ Martin Garrix for a spectacular yearmix, and the station made sure that 2019 would continue right where they left off. Harris rose to the occasion by delivering a sensational mix of tech-house, early 90’s garage house and pop sounds, all flawlessly mixed into one great set.
Calvin Harris’ One Mix aired last Friday, January 11th, and the 1 hour-long session brought surprisingly fresh and interesting underground vibes and sounds to its listeners. The extremely popular Scottish producer, who is just fresh off his brand new single ‘Giant’ with Rag’n’Bone Man, mixed in tracks from artists like MOGUAI, Andrea Oliva, KiNK, Pirate Copy, ZDS, The Golden Boy and Christian Nielsen, all artists that you wouldn’t usually find in a Calvin Harris set.
Obviously Harris also threw in a couple of his own, more commercial productions, like ‘One Kiss’ with Dua Lipa, ‘Promises’ with Sam Smith, and ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ ft. Disciples, but the contrast with the more underground tracks is pretty brilliant. It comes as no surprise that 2019 is likely to bring a number of great new collaborations by the Scotsman and other superstar artists once again.
