Deniz Koyu – Eclipse

When Deniz Koyu decided to step away from progressive house to focus on his KO:YU alias – a house/future bass alternative side to Koyu – many were worried about whether the original Deniz Koyu project would continue. With anthems such as ‘Lift‘ with Don Palm, ‘To The Sun‘, and ‘Tung!‘, the German-Turkish DJ has more than made a name for himself with some of the finest progressive house productions of the 2012-2015 so-called ‘golden era’, and you will be glad to know that he is beginning to return back towards his roots with his more recent productions. Koyu has just dropped his latest track ‘Eclipse‘, and there are flashes of the old Koyu sound blended within something brand new.

Releasing the track via Spinnin’ Records, Koyu seems to have approached the track with a more electronically driven look about him. With previous releases, Koyu’s melodic simplicity and subtle production made every track blissful, whereas a Porter Robinson style approach with plenty of chops and electronic elements gives the track more punch and volume. The progressive feel radiates from start to finish, and Deniz’s classic sounds find their way into this fresh, up to date production. The style has evolved from his older sounds, but the retro Axtone ‘Koyu-style’ elements have found their place weaved amongst ‘Eclipse‘s infectious vibe. The ‘Lift‘ days might not return just yet, but the 33-year-old has plenty of time on his side, and the re-birth by so many producers of their older, progressive sounding tracks may inspire him to head back over to Axtone with some fresh prog tracks.
