Skrillex debuts new material at NYE show in Vancouver

To usher in 2019, Skrillex played a show at Contact Festival in Vancouver. He played an unreleased track that was first heard at Fuji Rock and now again in Canada. The track had an emotional intro where Skrillex addressed the crowd, asked the venue to turn the house lights off, and asked fans about their year. The vocals from the track “Cinema” danced over the track and fit perfectly into the ecstatic, euphoric, and groovy drop he created.

The track features stuttered vocal chops, spacey plucks, and a ridiculously catchy drop. 2018 was a great year for the producer, he collaborated with artists like Camila Cabello, The Weeknd, Kimbra, Jennifer Lopez and Lykke Li rather than working to release his own material. He also remixed Kendrick Lamar and worked with his original band From First To Last.

Before he played the track Skrillex said on the mic, “All I wanna say is thank you so much let’s have an amazing 2019 together”. He went on to get the venue to turn all the house lights off and set the mood for what was to follow. Skrillex believes in the power of numbers and asked all the attendees to think about all the accomplishments they have made and to appreciate their loved ones.
