David Guetta might be a name that divides opinion in dance music, but you can’t deny his longevity and impact on the genre over the past few decades. From major pop hits to the dark and brooding techno of his Jack Back alias, Guetta is a man with a knack for hitting a sweet spot in whatever style he turns his hand to, and his latest track ‘Better When You’re Gone‘, a collaboration with Brooks and Loote, is no exception.
At its heart this isn’t simply an electronic track – much like the way the late Tim Bergling (aka Avicii) blended the two genres with his 2013 smash ‘Wake Me Up‘, this is a country track at heart, despite none of the artists involved having been previously associated with the genre. Guetta and Brooks are of course EDM producers, while the more traditional songwriting element likely comes from pop duo Loote, who have made a name for themselves writing for the likes of Shawn Mendes and Zara Larsson.
Be in no doubt though, this is a bouncing festival-ready anthem on the face of it, with some big drops and a mainstage-ready melody that works a treat with the vocal line. ‘Better When You’re Gone’ is out now, and you can listen to it yourself below.
