The undisputed boss of all things trance, Armin van Buuren showed his true skill and class over this Ultra Music Festival. After Eric Prydz’s last minute cancellation, Armin had to find a replacement for the 2 hour void left in the A State Of Trance Arena’s time table, and stepped up himself to cover for his friend in his time of need. However, before van Buuren’s 4 hour extended ASOT set on Sunday was his Ultra main stage set the day before, and oh boy is this one that you need to hear! Packed with 90 minutes of trance, progressive, psy, and beyond, featuring special guests too, Armin’s set was unrivalled in its ability to blend so many sounds seamlessly.

The set kicked off in somewhat unusual fashion, with Armin joined on stage by Van Halen vocalist David Lee Roth, to ‘perform’ a special edit of their track ‘Jump‘. Following this, the Dutchman was joined on stage by fellow countrymen Lucas & Steve to play their new collaboration ‘Don’t Give Up On Me‘. Following this, things took a step up, with Armin bringing the trance sounds to Miami. Tracks from Vigel, Exis, and his own collab with Above & Beyond carried the set further into the night, with Release Records track ‘For Life‘ by Francisco Cunha getting dropped for good measure, and bringing progressive house into the mix. It wouldn’t be an Armin set without numerous ID’s, with the veteran DJ mixing them in flawlessly around numerous classics, iconic AvB releases, and thumping trancers. Tracks from Vini Vici and W&W brought the psy trance vibe into the mix, taking the set towards its end with Armin’s usual closing mashup featuring ‘Blah Blah Blah‘ and the remix from Brennan Heart. This was certainly one of the finest sets of the weekend, and one you don’t want to miss!
