Basto – Play It Again

Think back to 2011… the sound of progressive house was at its peak. Avicii was at the forefront of the new wave of sound taking over the world, as his infectious melodic vibe spread to the furthest regions. Though many attempted to provide their own take on this vibe, few were successful. Cue the entrance of Basto, a Belgian producer now 44 years old. With years of production under his belt, Basto brought his blend of the Avicii sound and his own work to create some iconic releases, most notably ‘Again and Again‘. Now, 8 years on from its release, Jef Martens (Basto) is dropping the ultimate follow up, as ‘Play It Again‘ has just been released.

The sound of the likes of Basto and Avicii is what inspired so many to produce to this day. Many stipulated after the Swedish House Mafia reunion that the classic progressive sound would soon return, and they were right, as progressive house has began to rise back to its former glory. This new release from Basto furthers the cause, as the melodic excellence that brought about the Belgian’s rise shines through on ‘Play It Again‘. With a simple short vocal, the attention is all on the instrumental, which Martens executes incredibly. Festival vibes pulsate throughout the track, and you really get the summer feels from the old Tomorrowland after movies from this one.
