U.S. Visa Applicants Required to Provide Social Media Profiles

Home Uncategorized U.S. Visa Applicants Required to Provide Social Media Profiles

Visa applicants to the United States are now required to provide all social media accounts they have used within the last five years as of Friday, June 1st. By giving this information to the U.S. government will be able to access photos, videos, dates of birth and other public information commonly posted on social accounts.

“We already request certain contact information, travel history, family member information, and previous addresses from all visa applicants”, said the State Department in a statement, per The New York Times, “We are constantly working to find mechanisms to improve our screening processes to protect U.S. citizens, while supporting legitimate travel to the United States.”

Not only will visa applicants need to provide social media account names, but they will also need to provide all previous and recent phone numbers and email addresses from the last five years as well. With many international DJ’s currently on tour in the U.S, this could prove to be a minor hindrance for many tour schedules and shows.
