Jamie Jones samples Janet Jackson on his latest EP
There are certain records that are just crying out for a chunky remix, even if they’re decades old. One such record is Janet Jackson’s 1986 hit ‘Nasty’, a funky pop banger straight out of the decade that first brought synthesizers and drum machines to mainstream attention. So who better to bring it bang up to date via a clever bit of sampling than the master that is Jamie Jones.
‘Under My Control’ is right at the groovier end of tech house, and with its tribal rhythms and subtle yet clever use of small grabs of Jackson’s original, it makes for a moody little number that would fit in as an ideal set builder in the steamy atmosphere of Paradise at DC10. Indeed, the track forms part of the ‘Paradise EP’, released this week on Jamie Jones’ own Hottrax imprint, a sub-label of his Hot Creations brand that showcases the more underground side of his sound.
The four-track EP is something of a snapshot of exactly what Paradise is about, with groovy and techy tracks from Kiki, Popof, and Rafa Barrios making up the rest of the record. It’s out now on Beatport, and you can listen to ‘Under My Control’ below.
