Marshmello mini-documentary reveals early influences from Skrillex

Marshmello has delighted fans once again with another piece of fascinating content from his ever-popular YouTube channel. The DJ teamed up with his manager, Moe Shalizi to put together a mini-documentary describing ‘Mello’s early beginnings and his rapid rise to fame.

Kicking off with the project’s early beginnings, Shalizi describes the process and effort into creating the Marshmello brand, as well as the mixed receptions that came along with it. However, after catching the attention of Skrillex, Shalizi and Marshmello soon realized the sheer size of the project’s potential. In the documentary, Shalizi recites the first time Skrillex got in contact with him;

“Yo man, I need to know who Marshmello is. I’m going through some stuff personally and the music has been really helping me out”

Soon thereafter, ‘Mello would find himself performing alongside Skrillex for a 10,000-strong crowd in New York. Shalizi cites the show as being the moment “the internet went berserk”. Eventually, the mystery of his identity encapsulated the attention of fans across the globe, generating theories around the likes of Martin Garrix, Tiësto and The Chainsmokers.

Fast forward to 2019, and Marshmello is one of the highest-selling DJ’s in the world. Boasting a handful of multi-platinum records, he recently released his 3rd studio album; ‘Joytime III’ and also holds the record for most weeks spent at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, with his track ‘Happier’ with Bastille sitting atop the chart for a staggering 41 weeks!
