Now that we are proceeding towards the end of this year, more and more award shows are on the corner in order to recognize and honor those who have made an impact in their field of profession the past 12 months. When it comes to music VMA already took place, DJ Mag’s TOP 100 is only a few weeks away during the Amsterdam Dance Event, but this week was all about the Ibiza based DJ Awards, one of the most acknowledged award show to help to celebrate talents of the electronic music scene.

The DJ Awards has been established in 1998 and ever since then was held annually on the ‘White Island’ of Spain at the end of the summer season. 1019 marked the 22nd edition of the ceremony, hosted at Heart Ibiza second time in a row, with 24 awards to be handed out – 14 in different categories of music genres and the remaining ten were the awards for the industry handed to record labels, producer, Ibiza DJ, and track of the season. The award is “a mystical piece of green kryptonite”. The word kryptonite embodies Crypto (The code and mystery of life) and Nite (The nightlife and its culture).

Among the winners were well-known names such as Carl Coxx, who were rewarded as best international DJ, while Chase & Status received the kryptonite in the Bass category. Charlotte de Witte made history the night, becoming the first woman to win the award in the genre of Techno.

You can see the full list of winners below, congratulations to all the talents!

If you are wondering how they come up with the nominees and the categories, here’s the answer from their website:

‘One of the most asked questions that we hear, is “how do the categories and nominees get decided each year”. At the beginning of each year, the DJ Awards team work together with a panel of electronic dance music professionals to start the process of researching potential DJ’s for inclusion into the categories.’

‘The panel’s background covers a diverse range of experience who all share our passion for electronic music. The panel is renewed each year to keep ideas fresh. There are 2 sets of categories; music and non-music.’

We love the concept, let us know what you think about the winners, and to stay up-to-date with everything EDM related, you can now get updates from WeRaveYou on Facebook Messenger by clicking HERE.
