ABC’s Nightline joined Kygo on a whirlwind weekend trip recently as the Norwegian DJ played three shows in 48 hours, from a Las Vegas poolside to a festival in Toronto, and back again. During the interview, Kygo opened up on his meteoric rise, from experimenting with sounds in his bedroom studio and watching YouTube tutorials.

Discussing his career highlights so far, including collaborations with Rita Ora, Selena Gomez, and Ellie Goulding, Kygo also discussed his new remix of Whitney Houston‘s ‘Higher Love’, the first of Whitney’s hits to feature in the Billboard Hot 100 since her death in 2012. When asked about his biggest influences, Kygo spoke heavily on the inspiration provided to him by Avicii, adding:

“When I heard his songs, I just connected with them in a different way. ‘Wake Me Up‘ is the biggest song ever. I just knew that this is what I wanna do!”

During all his shows in this 48 hour period, Kygo also gave a shout out to the legendary Swede, who tragically died in April 2018, playing one of his tracks in every set. R.I.P Tim, we won’t let you fade into darkness.
