It's that time of year

It’s that time of year again – the MTV EMA’s are just around the corner, and this year’s nominees have been revealed. Looking eerily similar to last year’s electronic MTV EMA nominees, Martin GarrixThe Chainsmokers, Calvin Harris and Marshmello, all receive nominations form best electronic act once again, while DJ Snake replaces David Guetta, who rounded out the 5th nomination spot last year.

Like last year, the 2019 nominees for best song feature no electronic nominees, with the likes of Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Post Malone and Shawm Mendes all receiving nominations, while the nominees for best video, are also rounded out by pop artists. The last time an electronic act won “Best song”, was back in 2001, when Gorillaz‘s ‘Clint Eastwood’ took home the award.

While some fans mightn’t necessarily classify the band as entirely electronic as such, they also took home the “Best Electronic” award that same year, beating out the likes of Basement JaxxDaft PunkFaithless and Roger Sanchez. Furthermore, Pop-stars Madonna and Kylie Minogue took home the “Best Dance” award in 2000, and 2002 respectively.

After enjoying a gargantuan 2018 campaign, can Marshmello take home the chocolates once again, or will he be dethroned? Check out the full list of MTV EMA nominees here!
