Known for delivering powerful messages in their songs, The Chainsmokers are one of the acts in the industry who actively discuss and include the rigours of dealing with mental health issues in their songs and social media. Touching on self-image and narcissism in their single ‘Sick Boy’, as well as paranoia and nihilism in ‘Everybody Hates Me’, the duo doesn’t shy away from the touchier subjects. Now, The Chainsmokers have once again delivered another touching message regarding mental health in the form of a tribute to their videographer Rory Kramer.

Having sky-rocketed into the mainstream for his work on the music video for Avicii‘s ‘The Nights’ and starring in a TV show based on his action-packed life, Rory’s life would soon take a turn for the worst, following an injury and mental health struggles. In light of this, the duo decided to highlight his struggles in a video via Instagram, in the hope that fans and listeners everywhere can learn from Rory. Playing their single ‘Family’, with Kygo in the background, the video proves to be a touching tribute to Rory’s resilience and highlights the importance of looking out for those we care about.

In the post, The Chainsmokers wrote a heartfelt message, encouraging fans to “take something positive away from Rory’s struggle”;

“Anxiety and depression is an on going battle that we will have to deal with for the rest of our lives, but we’re thankful to have a platform to tell our stories in hopes that they may help other people. You’ve probably heard it many times but don’t forget to check in with your friends. Depression and anxiety externalize themselves in unpredictable ways and some people are great a keeping it to themselves until it’s too late.”
