Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s ‘Wakanda’ turns 7 years old
These days, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are best known as the reigning number #1 DJs in the world, having emerged victorious in the most recent DJ Mag Top 100 poll, scooping the title during AMF at the Johan Cruijff ArenA last October. But long before their most recent triumph (their second in the poll, having also snatched the award in 2015), Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike were producing a very different sound to their current ‘3, 2, 1…. Jump!’ style.
Dropping on Axwell‘s Axtone Records imprint exactly 7 years ago, ‘Wakanda’ used African influences and tribal chord patterns to craft one of the biggest hits of 2013. Used regularly in Swedish House Mafia‘s final sets of their ‘One Last Tour’ schedule, the track has also been heavily aired by Steve Angello in his solo sets over the years, with ‘Wakanda’ showcasing Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike at their very best.
Though the Belgian pair are best known for more big-room flavoured hits, and even hip-hop and latin styles in more recent times, let’s throw it all the way back to 2013 now to relive this sumptuous slice of the ‘golden era’.
