Skrillex & Marshmello among the nominees for MTV VMAs 2022 edition

We’re days from the annual MTV‘s Music Video Awards, with the folllowing week consisting of the final public voting in several social categories. Electrifying list of performers to turn up the heat during the VMAs also consist of experiencing singles from two EDM stars that got their nominations this year – Marshmello and Skrillex.

This year MTV VMAs 2022 found two representatives of EDM genre in their nominations list – Marshmello and Skrillex. Among 22 categories, 26 artists are competing for awards and recognition for their artistic contributions in the music and videography world. The VMAs pre-show is set to air live on Sunday August 28th 6:30 P.M. ET/PT (11:30 P.M. GMT+1), which will feature Tate McRae as a special celebrity correspondent and Murda Beatz as the Kraft Singles House DJ. Before and during the pre-show, watchers can expect live updates and recaps of nominees on VMA’s official Twitter account. Among the performers of the pre-show are Dove Cameron, Yung Gravy and Saucy Santana to warm up the atmosphere during the 90 minute period. The spectacle itself starts at 8 P.M. ET/PT and will be honored by performances from J Balvin, Lizzo, Blackpink, Panic! At The Disco and many more.

This year VMAs announced social categories, meaning fans are invited to vote for their favorite artists and records this year via VMAs Instagram account and the website. Every social category gets its time to shine for a couple of days, and as of now voters can either vote on IG stories or delegate up to 10 votes on the site for their favorite Best New Artist, where Dove Cameron and Måneskin are nominated, and both are set to perform in the event. On August 22nd, Group Of The Year will have Blackpink, BTS, Silk Sonic, Imagine Dragons and Foo Fighters being chosen among the fans for their favorite. The nominees of this category Red Hot Chilli Peppers are set to not only perform during the event but to also receive 2022 VMA Global Icon Award, dedicated to those artists who leave their mark on the global music world. Another special award will go to Nicki Minaj, set to perform during the show and accept 2022 VMA Video Vanguard Award.

Skrillex found himself nominated with J Balvin on the Best Latin category with their single ‘In Da Ghetto‘, and J Balvin is also set to heat up the audience in-between the awards. Marshmello’s fresh new collaboration with Khalid titled ‘Numb’ got them the nomination for Song of Summer category which the event will have the duo perform in one of the breaks. In that particular category the competition is strong, with including Beyonce’s ‘Break My Soul’ and ‘Vegas’ by Doja Cat, so mark your calendars for August 25 to vote for your favorite new single. The last social category open for voters will be Album Of The Year on August 27, where one of the nominees Adele, Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish, Drake and Harry Styles will win the title by fan vote.

The six professional categories which are non-voteable include Best Cinematography, Direction, Art Direction, Visual Effects, Choreography and Editing. As always, it’s common for musicians to take the directing stick in their own hands and create a video-format artwork of high value. That’s the case this year with Taylor Swift and the music video for ‘All Too Well (10 Minute Version)’ and Billie Eilish with ‘Happier Than Ever’, which are both nominated for Best Direction.
