Whether phones should be allowed on the dancefloor or not is one of the hot topics in the electronic music scene, as more and more people find other people who use their phones on the dancefloor annoying. Back in 2018, a survey found that 70 percent of people share that same feeling. Damian Lazarus is definitely among that percentage. Every Saturday during the summer, the legendary DJ and producer will encourage a "no-phones" policy throughout his Club Room residency at the DJ Mag #1 club in the world, Hï Ibiza. It proves to be a major move that could yet end up being incredibly influential if other DJs start to follow along because some of the other summer residents include Eric Prydz and Tale Of Us, who attract a lot of people because of their breathtaking audio-visual shows. As we have seen time and time again on social media, those kinds of shows tend to include a lot of phones in the crowd.

Beginning this weekend, the 18th of May precisely, Damian Lazarus will encourage a phone-free dancefloor during his co-residency with Black Coffee at Hï Ibiza’s Club Room.

Damian Lazarus took to Instagram to share the summer Saturday lineups for his Hï Ibiza residency and stated:

“From open to close we take pride in creating a totally unique environment, centered around the mystical Temple, it’s a proper session where we lose our inhibitions and can enjoy a sense of freedom as we enforce our groundbreaking “No Phones” policy inside the room.”

Damian Lazarus is certainly not the first DJ to get concerned about the growing amount of people on phones during shows. Meduza did the exact same thing last year when Matt (1/3 of Meduza) expressed his idea on Instagram to do a show in Chicago with people in the crowd not having any phones with themselves throughout the event. This idea has been adopted by some clubs including Nowadays in New York and Fold and Fabric in London. Tiësto’s set during this year’s Ultra Miami had, without a shadow of a doubt, the most energetic crowd of the whole festival due to the fact the pouring rain prohibited people from using their phones. All that’s left to see is how the idea will progress in the future. Damian Lazarus might just spark a revolution when he starts taking the stage in Hï Ibiza this Saturday.
