Home Ibiza Ibiza visitors set to experience stricter alcohol laws this year

Every year, the island of Ibiza in Spain becomes a main tourist destination for individuals around the world looking to let loose in one of the most beautiful locations on the planet. Now new bands on alcohol will impact some of the partying that is synonymous with the region.

First enacted back in 2020, the government of Spain’s Balearic Islands is looking to further crack down on rowdy tourists, parties, and alcohol usage. The new laws will impact the Llucmajor, Palma, and Calvia (Magaluf) resorts in Majorca as well as San Antonio in Ibiza. One of the major changes will be the strict enforcement of limiting alcohol sales from 9:30 PM until 8 AM, forcing stores to stop sales during these hours although bars and other establishments will be able to operate as normal. To further prevent rowdy crowds, anyone caught with an open container in a public space will also be issued a fine ranging from €750 and €1,500 and upwards of €1,500 to €3,000 if an offense is considered very serious.

The new laws also look to limit the conduct of party boats operating off the coast of the island. The ban will extend one nautical mile off the island as well, providing strict guidance for party boats to remain out to see in these regions and prevent the picking up or dropping off of passengers. Palma mayor Jaime Martínez hopes that these new actions will help to “correct uncivil activities.” For those traveling to the region this year, it is important to be mindful of these new laws and respect the locations and their desire to create a safe environment for all.
