Home Featured IMS Business Report 2024: Fandom in 2023 enjoys massive rise

The IMS Business Report of 2024 shows that electronic music had a massive surge in fandom in 2023, surpassing and outperforming other genres across all major platforms.

The IMS Business Report is upon us yet again this year, which plays a major part in showcasing to people just how electronic music fared over the course of last year. According to the report, the popularity of electronic music amongst people has skyrocketed in 2023, growing fastest across all key platforms. This has led electronic music to surpass rock, Latin music, and hip-hop, in spite of having the smallest fanbase. Hip-hop still dominates the streaming game, but electronic music is beginning to catch up to streaming numbers of Latin and rock music.

2023 has also seen a rise in electronic music markets, with Australia and South Africa recording staggering numbers of electronic music listeners. The four strongest markets include Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, and most notably, Australia. The IMS Business Report shows that Australia has an incredible ratio of 10:1, which means that it has 10 times more listeners than the whole country has people! South Africa, on the other hand, enjoyed an impressive rise (twice as many listeners as the total population) and has now broken into the top 10 biggest electronic music markets on the planet. That accomplishment is only a testament to the country’s careful nurturing and development of its electronic music scenes and culture. Some other notable countries in the top 10 include Mexico, India, and Brazil, which have incredibly engaging and passionate communities.

All in all, it’s always great to see electronic music thrive and grow in so many different parts of the globe. With significant growth in popularity and widespread acclaim, electronic music could yet enjoy its biggest surge in the coming year. With more and more diverse live music and the pushing of boundaries, our scene is here to remain.
