Home Tech LP-UNF: Kali Audio’s Light Weight Powerhouse

Kali Audio recently launched the LP-UNF Ultra Nearfield monitor system; a powerful yet compact pair worthy of consideration for your next studio upgrade.

Kali Audio is a professional audio company, designing high-quality and affordable speakers out of Burbank, California since 2018. Recently, the brand has introduced its latest entry in its Lone Pine lineup.

Meet the LP-UNF system; a compact and affordable solution for producers looking for high-quality sound representation on a more conservative budget. The LP-UNF system ships as a pair. One monitor serves as the primary, as this is the unit users plug the power cable, Interconnect cable, and audio inputs. The secondary speaker uses one port for the Interconnect cable, allowing for better cable management as a second power cable is not required.

The cables provided include the power cable, which is essential for the operation of the monitors, and the Interconnect cable, for linking the monitors together. For those looking to wire their monitors together across a wider range, Kali Audio offers longer Interconnect cables on their website.

The LP-UNF system offers a wide range of connectivity options, including RCA, TRS, USB-C, and Bluetooth audio. Kali Audio incorporated technology from the larger LP-6 and LP-8 monitor offerings in the Lone Pine lineup when designing these units. This ensures that the audio transmitted is high-quality and reliable for monitoring.

Both speakers feature a 4.5-inch woofer and a 1-inch dome tweeter. This woofer delivers a powerful bass response through the use of a large magnet and voice coil in its interior (Capable of reaching as low as 39Hz). It articulates a clean, evenly represented sound. The tweeter is lifted straight from other Kali Audio offerings ensuring the same level of sonic quality the brand is known for.

The front-firing port tube helps cut back on interfering port noise; which allows users to place these monitors as close to a wall as they like without worrying about performance. Producers will also be able to take advantage of the DIP switch system and reference guide to customize their sound to the needs of their space.

For newer producers, it’s important to note that the LP-UNF duo does not require an audio interface if connected via USB-C (USB-C cable is not included). The USB-C input is able to support up to 48kHz sample rate and 24-bit resolution. This makes it a versatile and convenient option for those looking to streamline their setup and dive into music production without increasing their initial investment.

Who is this for?

The LP-UNF monitors are meticulously crafted for ultra-nearfield use, catering to the needs of music producers working in smaller spaces who are keen on maximizing their sound. While its size is compact, these monitors deliver full-range audio within 0.8 meters (at arm’s length), ensuring an immersive listening experience. The small physical footprint of these units makes the pair an appealing choice for producers who value portability and the flexibility to effortlessly reconfigure their studio setup. Whether you travel frequently or someone who regularly adjusts and rearranges their workspace, the LP-UNF system offers a competitive blend of high-quality sound and practicality.

Accessible Price Point

If you’re new to music production, purchasing your first pair of studio monitors can feel overwhelming as the price point is often high. Proper studio monitors are essential for music producers, audio engineers, and instrumentalists looking for an accurate representation of sound when monitoring their audio for production and the mixing process. Kali Audio’s LP-UNF studio monitor system is priced at an accessible $299, offering an incredible value proposition for producers looking to set up a smaller studio without compromising on audio quality.
