Spotify finds itself in the news for many reasons as the dominant force in music streaming. Now the platform is looking to roll out a new HiFi tier soon and has discussed some of the pricing plans.

Spotify continuously looks to update its product offering, adding new features to entice listeners and make the platform more user-friendly. Of course, the platform is a business and fans have seen not one but two price increases over the past year as it continues to grow and evolve. These price increases have been defended by CEO Daniel Ek by stating, “Part of why I believe the subscription business in the last year or two has been doing better is because we’ve moved from that one-size-fits-all [plan] to a much more tailored proposition where consumers now have everything from the basic tiers to duo to, you know, family plans to student plans. There’s just many more options for you to subscribe to Spotify.”

One feature that has yet to come to Spotify is a higher audio quality tier. This has been touched upon in recent years but has yet to be rolled out to the public. As plans to craft a HiFi audio tier continue to unfold, pricing came up again. In response, Ek said, “The plan here is to offer a much better version of Spotify. So think something that could be something like $5 above the current premium tier. It’s probably around the $17, or $18 price point. Sort of a deluxe version of Spotify that has all of the benefits that the normal Spotify version has, but a lot more control, a lot higher quality across the board.”

The price point sits above the current monthly cost of $12, but with no timeline for when the higher-quality audio will be released, these price points are far from guaranteed.
