Swedish House Mafia ‘One (Your Name)’ turns 14 years old
Fourteen years ago, Swedish House Mafia released their seminal track, “One (Your Name)”. This track marked a significant milestone for the Swedish supergroup, and its impact has endured over the years.
Released in July 2010, “One (Your Name)” features vocals by Pharrell Williams of N.E.R.D. The single quickly gained traction, debuting on BBC Radio 1 with Zane Lowe, who named it the hottest record of April 2010. The song’s infectious beat and compelling lyrics captured listeners worldwide, reaching number one in the Netherlands and number seven on the UK Singles Chart. It also made waves in Belgium, Ireland, Sweden, and other European countries.
The track’s success was further bolstered by its inclusion on Swedish House Mafia’s mix album Until One and their studio album Until Now. The music video, directed by Henrik Hanson and Christian Larson, showcased an innovative blend of visuals that complemented the track’s high-energy vibe.
In a nod to its lasting influence, Swedish composer Jacob Mühlrad crafted a symphonic version of “One” in 2019. This rendition, known as “One Symphony,” debuted on January 1, 2022, and Swedish House Mafia performed it during their tour that year.
The creation of “One (Your Name)” involved extensive collaboration. Written and produced by Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso, the track also features lyrics by Pharrell Williams. Initially recorded in Australia, the team repurposed the vocals for “One” after significant processing with Melodyne, making them a central element of the dance track. They crafted the final mix using Logic and an SSL console at Metropolis Studios in London.
Today, “One (Your Name)” stands as a testament to Swedish House Mafia’s enduring legacy in electronic dance music, with its influence still shaping the genre.
