In the realm of iconic trance singles, Tiësto’s “Traffic,” released in 2003, stands tall. Over the years, this track has seen countless reinterpretations by electronic dance music aficionados. Today, emerging techno artist DIØN offers his unique rendition, transforming the trance classic into a pulsating underground techno anthem.

Through the Verknipt Records imprint, DIØN’s rework bursts with aggressive synths, deep basslines, hardcore percussion, and rave-style effects, all surrounding Tiësto’s famous two-note riff. By significantly altering the BPM, DIØN positions the track squarely within the hard dance genre. Appropriately, this remix has been dubbed the official anthem for the Verknipt ArenA 2024 show in Amsterdam later this year.

Production Insight

DIØN expressed how the original single holds personal significance for him. “It was my first encounter with electronic music. As a child, my dad would pick up my brother and me from our grandmother’s house, regularly playing this Tiësto CD with ‘Traffic’ in the car. Listening to it nearly every day, I never imagined I would one day remix this track.”

On the production front, DIØN highlighted the challenge of blending authenticity with his unique style. “Tiësto is a legend, and ‘Traffic’ is my favorite track of his. I needed to stay true to the original sound while infusing it with my signature drums and acid elements. During my sold-out 10-hour set at Thuishaven in June, I played it for the first time, and the crowd went wild, especially during the long, uplifting break. I couldn’t be happier with the result.”

One of the most sought-after names in Hard Dance and Techno, DIØN enjoys support from genre heavyweights such as Amelie Lens, Sara Landry, and Fatima Hajji. His ROUGH MATERIAL label showcase at the iconic Dutch venue Paradiso earlier this year sold out within minutes. In June, his epic 10-hour set at Thuishaven electrified the audience, and as DIØN prepares to debut his take on “Traffic” at one of the biggest hard dance events ever, his status in the industry seems firmly established.
